Born Thomas Llewelyn Jones and better known by his pen name T. Llew Jones, this prolific children's author penned such acclaimed, Welsh-language works as Tan ar y Comin and Lleuad yn Olau.
After graduating from Wales' Llandysul Grammar School and before becoming a professional writer, he had a nearly four-decade career as a schoolteacher.
He received a 2007 Welsh Publishsing Award for a bestselling poetry volume titled Geiriau a Gerais.
One of his sons, Emyr Llewelyn Jones, was a prominent political activist of the 1960s and 1970s. His other son, Iolo Ceredig Jones, became an internationally-known professional chess player.
In the mid-1980s, he translated Jules Verne's famous work, Round The World in 80 Days, into Welsh.
