Biologist who, like his famous mother Sylvia Plath, committed suicide following a lengthy battle with depression. He was an expert in the ecology of salmonid fish and served as a professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Before Fame

He earned his Phd in Biology from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1991.


He was the subject of one of his mother's last poems, "Nick and the Candlestick."

Family Life

He comes from a world-famous family of poets which includes Sylvia Plath, Ted Hughes and Freida Hughes.

Associated With

Following the death of his mother in 1963, he was raised by his father, Ted Hughes.
